Historical Village Renovations
Summer is the time for many events at the Historical Village. It is also the time we try do some of the maintenance and restoration needed to keep the Village open to the public. Restoration needs identified over the next 5 years include:
The Iowa Flats School and the Fewkes Store. The school and store are in need of new paint, both inside and out. Currently, a group of volunteers are painting the inside the school. (These two projects will involve the removal of old paint, scraping, sanding and then priming, followed by new paint. These projects now have top priority on our restoration list in order to preserve these two buildings.)

Iowa Flats School

Fewkes Store
The Great Northern Caboose. Last year we were able to repaint the caboose and it looks great now. While painting the caboose, however, we learned that much of the siding is rotten and vandalism by climbers has destroyed the integrity of the roof.

Boardwalk
Wooden Boardwalk. Our wooden boardwalk has held up quite well for untreated lumber, but it too is finally rotting away and in need of replacement.
If you would like to help with any of these projects, by either volunteering or through a tax deductible donation, please contact Lynda Young.
